Funding Your Doctoral Education

Most students who are offered admission to the Ph.D. program receive a .5 FTE (20 hours per week) assistantship involving research and some teaching. The few exceptions to this rule involve applicants who are paid by their governments, the military, or an external fellowship agency.

In addition, students on assistantship typically receive both out-of-state and in-state tuition remission, university-sponsored health insurance, and a 10% bookstore discount.

Summer teaching is also frequently available, depending on course demand. Various minority fellowships are available to those who qualify, especially for first-year students.

The Graduate College has also gathered and listed a number of sources for students to review at http://grad.arizona.edu/financial-resources.
